An Ambitious Islington School

Located in Islington, North London, this large secondary school has built a culture around high expectations, academic ambition and creating opportunities for young people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

The Mathematics department is particularly important to the school's academic strategy. Pupils are encouraged to see Maths as more than simply passing examinations, developing the logical reasoning, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills required for university and future careers.

You’ll join a collaborative department where experienced teachers are keen to mentor talented graduates considering the profession.

What Will You Actually Do?

One morning could see you supporting a challenging Year 11 algebra lesson before delivering a targeted intervention to pupils approaching their GCSE examinations. Later, you might work individually with a student struggling with mathematical confidence or stretch high-achieving pupils with more advanced problems.

Your responsibilities could include:

  • Supporting Maths lessons across multiple year groups
  • Delivering targeted GCSE interventions
  • Providing 1:1 academic mentoring
  • Supporting examination preparation and revision
  • Creating extension resources for high-achieving students
  • Identifying and addressing gaps in mathematical understanding
  • Supporting sixth-form students with advanced content

Are You the Maths Graduate We’re Looking For?

A First-Class or 2:1 degree in Mathematics or a closely related numerical discipline is highly desirable. Strong A-Level Mathematics results, excellent communication skills and genuine enthusiasm for your subject will also be important.

Previous classroom experience is not essential. The school is looking for raw potential, academic strength, reliability and the ability to explain complex ideas clearly.

For an aspiring Maths teacher, this could provide the perfect bridge between university and teacher training.
