Job description

About Pell Frischmann

Pell Frischmann is a specialist advisory and technical consultancy operating across the built and natural environment, helping to shape a better future for the communities in which we work. We offer consultancy services, with access to specialist sister companies and partners, to support both public and private-sector clients. We work across sectors encompassing buildings, infrastructure, and regeneration. Originally formed in 1926, we have a unique heritage in delivering client-focused solutions that deliver value through our commercial awareness, sustainable aspirations, and innovative approach. Our distinctive future is defined by our ownership; Pell Frischmann is a part of RSBG SE, the patient capital investment arm of RAG-Stiftung. RAG-Stiftung is a foundation with the long-term public purpose to deal with the environmental and social commitments resulting from the closing of Germany’s coal mining industry. RSBG SE’s mission is to generate sustainable funds for the foundation; so, our work directly contributes to the challenge of fighting global pollution and climate change.

About The Role

We are seeking a motivated Graduate Highways & Infrastructure Engineer to join our multidisciplinary design team. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will support the planning, design, and delivery of transport and civil infrastructure projects across the UK. Your work will contribute to feasibility studies, concept development, detailed design, and preparation of construction information for a wide range of public and private-sector clients. This role will be hybrid and can be based from either our Wakefield, Luton, Birmingham or Manchester offices.

This is an excellent opportunity to begin your professional development within a collaborative, design-driven consultancy environment. You will gain hands-on experience with UK design standards, digital design tools, and multi-disciplinary working, while building the technical foundation required for progression toward Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.

You will be enrolled in our 2-3 year graduate programme where you will receive on the job training and development, as well as focus our general commercial awareness and personal effectiveness.

Right To Work Requirements

We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role due to salary thresholds. Applicants must already have the existing, unrestricted right to work in the UK for the full duration of our 2 to 3 year graduate programme. Unfortunately, this means we cannot accept applications where the right to work is time-limited and would expire before the programme ends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design of highways, active travel routes, junctions, drainage, and public-realm schemes.
  • Prepare 2D and 3D design models, drawings, and technical documents using industry-standard software (e.g., Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage).
  • Support feasibility studies and optioneering exercises, including geometric alignment design and appraisal of design constraints.
  • Contribute to technical reports, design statements, and design-stage risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with engineers, environmental specialists, planners, and other disciplines in delivering coordinated design solutions.
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates, bill of quantities, and tender documentation.
  • Participate in site visits, surveys, and inspections to gather information and support construction-phase work.
  • Engage in internal CPD, graduate training programmes, and mentorship to support your professional development.
Essential and Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications

  • MEng or BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Student membership of ICE or CIHT

Experience

  • Exposure to highways, drainage, or transport engineering concepts through academic projects
  • Internship, placement, or summer experience in consultancy or contracting
  • Familiarity with UK design principles (e.g., DMRB, MfS)
  • Experience using design tools (Civil 3D, OpenRoads, MicroDrainage, GIS)

Skills

  • Willingness to learn and take initiative
  • Experience with CAD drafting or digital modelling
  • Competent in Excel and technical report writing
  • Good organisation and time-management skills
  • Full UK driving licence (or working toward obtaining one)
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Experience presenting technical information
