Arup invites graduates to join its Ground Engineering team in Nottingham or Birmingham. You will investigate ground conditions, model ground data and contribute to foundations, earthworks and tunnel-related projects for the built environment.

You will work with GIS, CAD and BIM tools, with opportunities to develop expertise in 3D ground modelling, data interpretation and site-based collaboration. A strong academic record and flexible start are valued.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or Masters in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related fields
• Masters in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical disciplines desirable
• GIS, CAD, coding, AI, BIM/3D ground modelling experience desirable but not essential
• PhD candidates welcome in ground engineering related areas
• Full working rights in the UK; no more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role
• Recently graduated or on track to graduate before employment starts

• Assess site constraints, geological hazards and ground conditions to shape early-stage projects
• Analyse ground investigation data to derive ground models and design parameters
• Represent Arup on site during ground investigations and earthworks
• Deliver integrated solutions by collaborating with other disciplines

The Opportunity

We recruit across a range of degree level qualifications across geotechnical engineering, geology, environmental, contaminated land and natural sciences. Your career may develop in many directions from investigating and modelling complex ground conditions, designing foundations, earthworks and tunnels, and remediating land impacted by historical uses including industry and mining. We deliver projects across all markets with a significant volume of water, energy, rail and highways projects alongside site development and buildings.

• Assessing site constraints, geological hazards and ground conditions to help shape projects at their early stages
• Analysing ground investigation data to derive ground models and parameters for use in design
• Representing Arup on site during ground investigations, earthworks and other construction activities
• Delivering Total Design by working closely with other disciplines to provide integrated project solutions
• Written and verbal communication during all stages of projects, from initial optioneering through to detailed design

Is this role right for you?

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

An Undergraduate Bachelor's / Master's level (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering; Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Sciences; Geology/Geological Sciences/ Earth Sciences; Mining Engineering; Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Sciences; Geology/Geological Sciences/ Earth Sciences; Mining Engineering; Geography & Geospatial Sciences; Materials Engineering / Science. A Masters in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Mechanics or Environmental/Contaminated Land Science is also desirable. Skills and knowledge in GIS, CAD, coding, AI, BIM/3D ground modelling and previous industry experience are also desirable but not essential. We also welcome applications from those with or studying for a PhD in a ground engineering related area.

• Full working rights in the country of application
• No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role
• Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts.
