Job summary

Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking graduates in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering to join our Water Consultancy team in the UK.

You will contribute to feasibility studies, concept designs, and detailed design and construction support for water and wastewater assets, pipelines, and networks. You will work in multidisciplinary teams, develop practical design skills, perform calculations, produce drawings and reports, and travel occasionally to client sites while hybrid working across Derby,

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Good written and verbal communication skills; interest in UK water sector.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.
• Basic computing skills including MS Office and Excel.

Responsibilities

Purpose and scope of the role Join Tetra Tech’s growing Water Consultancy team and begin your career supporting engineering design services across UK Water Frameworks. We are seeking graduates from Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering backgrounds who want to build practical design skills and contribute to projects that improve the resilience, efficiency and sustainability of the UK’s water and wastewater infrastructure.

You will work within multidisciplinary design teams, supporting projects from feasibility and concept through to detailed design and construction delivery. Your work may include water and wastewater treatment assets, pumping stations, pipelines, networks, mechanical and electrical systems, and associated civil infrastructure.

Working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, you will contribute to calculations, drawings, specifications, design reports, surveys, site assessments and technical investigations. You will also develop an understanding of design standards, health and safety, quality assurance and the requirements of UK Water Frameworks.

Your impact in this position In the short term, you will support live design projects by preparing accurate technical information, calculations, drawings, schedules and reports. You will gain a practical understanding of how engineering disciplines work together to deliver safe, buildable and sustainable solutions for water industry clients.

As your experience grows, you will take greater responsibility for defined design tasks, technical packages and project deliverables. You will develop your ability to interpret client requirements, assess design options and communicate technical information clearly.

• Engineering design – Interest in developing practical engineering solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure, with the ability to apply engineering principles to design problems.
• Technical analysis and calculations – Ability to support calculations, assess design information, identify issues and produce accurate technical outputs.
• Design documentation – Ability to contribute to reports, drawings, specifications, schedules and design risk assessments.
• Digital engineering and software – Confident use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with an interest in CAD, BIM, GIS, hydraulic modelling or other engineering software.
• Communication and teamwork – Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative, adaptable approach and a willingness to learn and develop.

Skills, qualifications and experience Expected: A degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline; an interest in engineering design and the UK water and wastewater sector; good written and verbal communication skills; basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and Excel; a proactive approach to learning and professional development; and willingness to travel occasionally.

Desirable: Relevant modules, project work or experience in water and wastewater engineering, treatment processes, hydraulics, mechanical or electrical systems, civil infrastructure, pipelines, pumping stations or process engineering; familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Inventor, GIS or BIM platforms; experience with technical calculations, reports, specifications or drawings; site, internship, placement or project experience within engineering, construction, infrastructure or utilities; an understanding of UK water industry standards or asset management; and an interest in professional registration or chartership.

Work patterns and locations This role is based in our Derby, Sheffield, Leeds and Glasgow offices, with hybrid working available. For the first few weeks following induction you can expect to be in the office full time. Following that you can w ork in the office approximately two to three days per week, alongside home working, project meetings and occasional visits to client sites and operational assets. Travel may be required to support surveys, site investigations, design reviews and construction-related activities.
