Job summary

United Infrastructure Power T&D Limited is seeking a motivated Graduate Cost Controller to join our Project Controls team in the UK. This role offers hands-on experience in cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting within a fast-paced infrastructure environment.

You will work closely with Project Managers, finance, and supply chain to monitor costs, maintain cost trackers, reconcile invoices, and prepare weekly and monthly cost reports.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Basic understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Experience with Excel and data analysis is desirable.

Job Description

United Infrastructure are seeking a motivated and analytical Graduate Cost Controller to join our Project Controls team within our growing Power T&D business. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to develop a career in cost control, commercial management, and project finance within a professional and fast-paced environment. Working closely with our Project Managers, finance teams, supply chain and commercial stakeholders, you will support the accurate monitoring, reporting, and forecasting of project costs. You will gain hands-on experience in financial analysis, budget management, cost forecasting, and performance reporting while developing a strong understanding of project controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with monitoring project costs against approved budgets and forecasts.
• Maintain accurate cost trackers, budgets, commitments, and expenditure records.
• Review and reconcile purchase orders, invoices, accruals, and actual costs.
• Support the preparation of weekly and monthly cost reports.
• Support the preparation of monthly application for payment.
• Identify and investigate cost variances, escalating significant issues to the Project Controller / Project Controls Manager.
• Assist with cost forecasting and estimating the expected final project cost.
• Monitor committed costs and outstanding purchase orders to ensure accurate project reporting.
• Work closely with Finance, Supply Chain, Commercial, Planning and Risk teams to resolve cost queries.
• Assist with month-end reporting, reconciliations, and financial close activities.
• Maintain and update cost-control spreadsheets, dashboards, and reporting systems.
• Support the identification of cost risks, potential overspends, and savings opportunities.
• Produce cost summaries, dashboards, and management information as required.
• Ensure project financial information is accurate, complete, and submitted within reporting deadlines.
• Follow established cost-control procedures, financial policies, and governance requirements.
• Contribute to improving cost-control processes, reporting templates, and data quality.
Develop an understanding of project financial performance, forecasting, and commercial controls.

Desirable Experience

• Experience using Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
• Python Scripts.
• Data transformation.
• Qualification or training in Project Controls, Cost Management.
• Demonstrate ability of working to tight deadlines and regular reporting cycles.
• Any relevant industrial placements, internship, apprenticeship, or graduate experience would be advantageous.

Qualifications

• Degree, HND, HNC in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• God working knowledge or Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Basic understanding of accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Ability to analyse financial information and identify cost variances and discrepancies.
