Job summary

Amey, a leading UK infrastructure consultancy, is seeking a Graduate Climate & Air Quality Consultant to join the Climate & Air Quality team in Cardiff or Birmingham. You will gain hands-on experience in climate risk, greenhouse gas emissions, environmental data analysis and sustainability reporting, working on projects with major clients.

Starting salary of £31,000 and a 40-hour week, with a September 2027 start date.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2:1 degree in Meteorology, Climatology, Environmental Sciences, Physical Geography or a related subject.
• Strong knowledge of earth systems and climate change.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and data handling.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Team player, self-motivated and fast learner.

Responsibilities

• Support development of climate risk assessments for clients and identify vulnerabilities.
• Utilise UKCP18 projections and dispersion models to evaluate risks.
• Work with GIS tools and datasets to analyse climate-related data.
• Contribute to climate resilience strategy development and action plans.

About The Team

The Climate & Air Quality team sits within Amey Consulting’s Climate & Place practice, part of the Energy, Transition & Sustainability (ET&S) business. You will play an important role in supporting the delivery of our work. You will work in a friendly, supportive environment and will be given one to one support, mentoring, learning and development via experienced colleagues.

As a Graduate Climate & Air Quality Consultant, you will develop practical skills in climate risk and resilience assessment, greenhouse gas emissions and carbon management, environmental data analysis, sustainability reporting, and stakeholder engagement. You will gain experience applying UK climate and air quality policy and guidance, using industry-standard tools and datasets, and supporting the delivery of projects that help clients understand, manage, and adapt to climate-related risks while progressing their sustainability objectives.

You will be joining the Climate & Air Quality team at an exciting period of growth – the former is a rapid area of growth, and we have secured a largescale standalone climate risk and adaption project. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of our team, to shape and deliver impactful environmental projects, and support in work winning.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Support the development of climate risk assessments for clients, identifying potential vulnerabilities and exposures to climate-related hazards.
• Utilise climate projections such as UKCP18, and work with dispersion models such as ADMS along with GIS tools, and other analytical methods to evaluate risks.
• Help explore and develop methods of utilising climate data within the CEDA Catalogue.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of tailored climate resilience strategies and action plans for clients, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory standards.
• Support the preparation of proposals and bids for new projects, showcasing the value of air quality and climate resilience consulting.
• Stay informed about the latest developments in climate science, the wider environmental landscape policy, and technology to provide cutting-edge solutions.
• Collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to create inclusive, distinctive places that respond to climate, nature and community needs.
