Job summary

Crouch Waterfall is seeking a Graduate Engineer to join the Cardiff Rail/Bridges team. This early-career role offers strong technical support, real project exposure, and clear development pathways toward Chartered status.

You’ll work on diverse UK projects, supporting design, delivery, and client interactions while growing your structural design expertise and project-management skills in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• A BEng (or higher) in Civil and/or Structural Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
• Graduate member of ICE or IStructE, or willing to work towards professional membership.
• Strong grounding in structural design principles.
• 1-2 years of practical experience gained through work, placements or projects.
• Exposure to bridge engineering or structural design would be an advantage.
• Any exposure to UK rail projects would be desirable but is not essential.
• Fluent in English with the permanent right to work in the UK.
• Based within a reasonable commuting distance of Cardiff, or willing to relocate

Responsibilities

• Working within a multi-disciplinary design team on a varied portfolio of UK projects including rail and road bridges, footbridges, stations, level crossings, buildings, and wider infrastructure.
• Supporting the design of new bridges and the assessment, repair, and strengthening of existing structures.
• Assisting with project delivery from feasibility through to construction support, helping meet programme and budget requirements.
• Attending site surveys and client meetings, developing confidence in a client-facing role.
• Building project management skills, including exposure to bidding, tendering, and delivery processes.
• Gaining insight into the commercial and financial aspects of project delivery.
• Supporting technical activities such as structural inspections, surveys, feasibility studies, and programme preparation.
• Reviewing designs and calculations produced by others under supervision.
