Job summary

Amey is offering a Graduate Civil/Structural Engineer position in Manchester, starting September 2027. You will work in the Building Structures team on a range of projects, from bridges to estates, delivering inspections, designs and assessments as part of North East NMC and client portfolios.

About the Team

Amey’s Building Structures team within the Built Environment Team work across a range of exciting projects. From supporting Ministry of Justice projects, to Public Estates and Ministry of Defence works, along with Rail and Highways assets, you’ll be able to work on the design of a variety of different structures. This will include maintenance, upgrades and new builds to meet a variety of different client needs.

We have design hubs in Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham and London, with office space elsewhere across the UK, and we welcome applicants UK-wide.

What you’ll be doing

As a Civil/ Structural Engineering Graduate, your overall objective of this role is to ensure the effective delivery and maintenance of infrastructure services within North East NMC.

• Plan and undertake bridge inspections to confirm structural details and condition.
• Developing innovative solutions to enhance inspection and technical capabilities.
• Preparing technical drawings and reports
• Undertake numerical analysis and calculations to determine the structural load carrying capacity.
• Proposing strengthening and maintenance options.
• You will use your engineering knowledge and skills to deliver robust structural assessments, which will enable clients to continue the safe, efficient, and optimal management of their structure assets.

As a Civil /Structural Engineering Graduate, your overall objective of this role is to ensure the effective delivery and maintenance of structures across the UK, supporting Amey Complex Facilities, Amey Transport and Infrastructure and a variety of external clients.

You’ll work alongside the team to:

• Develop practical, sustainable design solutions, from RIBA stages 0-7
• Contribute to risk management including completing CDM documentation
• Produce accurate, high-quality models, drawings & schedules for buildings, bridges and civil structures
• Use design software and calculations to provide efficient solutions, including MS Excel, Tekla Tedds and Tekla Structural designer
• Undertake site visits including inspections, surveys and site support
• Communicate effectively via reports, emails, teams, meetings and phone calls and face-to-face
