Job description

Following the promotion of the current postholders, opportunities exist for a Building Surveyor and a Graduate Building Surveyor to join the Council's Corporate Asset and Facilities Management (CAFM) Service and make a positive impact by continuing to deliver against these goals. You can also enjoy the challenge of working with and maintaining important heritage buildings, where design skills are needed to harmonize the new with the historic.

The Council's Corporate Asset and Facilities Management (CAFM) Service is responsible for the Council's large and diverse property portfolio: around 300 buildings including changing rooms, leisure facilities, office buildings and many heritage buildings such as the iconic Halifax Town Hall. The Service's Facilities Management (FM) Technical Team is responsible for all technical resources (internal and external), required to deliver an effective maintenance and development service for this property portfolio.

This is a specialist team with key expertise, which acts as an intelligent client responsible for determining, specifying, commissioning and managing the full range of specialist works required to maintain such a large, diverse and complex portfolio of properties. It is also responsible for monitoring the Council's buildings and drawing up programmes of work across the estate, ensuring that all planned, programmed and reactive repair works are delivered with a customer focus, on time and within budget. The team has oversight of the delivery of capital projects and significant building works, as well as an annual revenue budget of circa £2m.

Building Surveyor

These are exciting roles, that will allow the right candidates to grow and develop through a diverse and interesting workload. The Building Surveyor post is responsible for the full range of building surveying duties including defect inspection, condition surveys, refurbishment schemes from inception to completion including related duties of tendering, procurement and contract administration. The post holder will also work with external specialist consultants preparing project briefs that lead to their appointment and subsequent collaboration.

Project planning is also key including agreeing prioritisation of works with stakeholders within available budgets that meets all statutory requirements; and maximising the performance and longevity of the Council's assets. This post oversees the delivery of capital projects and significant building works.

Graduate Building Surveyor

The Graduate Building Surveyor post is career graded to allow progression as you develop as a surveyor. Our diverse portfolio and wide-ranging workload will provide the experience required to work through your APC. You will provide support to other members of the team whilst also having a degree of autonomy to deliver your own workload. The team is multi-disciplinary, so you will have opportunity to work alongside architectural and building services colleagues as a cohesive, forward thinking delivery team.
