Job summary

Brandon James Limited is recruiting a Graduate Building Surveyor in Birmingham to gain the complete spread of building surveying work, including Level 3 APC experience in daily tasks. The role offers a supported route to MRICS within a structured graduate programme and long-term career progression.

You will inspect buildings, write reports, and assist with specifications, tender packages, and contract administration while travelling to site as needed. Salary ranges £28,000–£32,000.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Inspect buildings and record condition, defects and likely causes with support from chartered colleagues.
• Write survey reports and other client advice.
• Help prepare specifications, schedules of works and tender packs.
• Support contract administration, including site visits and progress records.
• Check statutory and regulatory requirements relevant to each instruction.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and colleagues across the consultancy.
• Keep APC diary and case study material up to date.

Job description

Plenty of Graduate Building Surveyors sit their APC final assessment with a diary full of Level 2 and very little at Level 3. That wouldn't be the case here. A Graduate Building Surveyor joining this Birmingham team gets the complete spread of building surveying work, so the Level 3 experience the RICS asks for comes through day-to-day instructions.

The firm is an established multi-sector consultancy offering a full building consultancy service, with clients from local owners through to national organisations. Workflow has stayed steady and the building surveying department is growing, which is behind this hire. There's a structured RICS graduate support programme in place. The firm expects its graduates to work towards Chartered status and backs them to get there.

The Graduate Building Surveyor Role

• Inspecting buildings and recording condition, defects and likely causes, with support from chartered colleagues
• Writing survey reports and other client advice
• Helping prepare specifications, schedules of works and tender packages
• Supporting contract administration, including site visits and progress records
• Checking statutory and regulatory requirements relevant to each instruction
• Liaising with clients, contractors and colleagues across the consultancy
• Keeping your APC diary and case study material up to date

The Person?

A Graduate Building Surveyor with some site experience already behind them who wants a supported, structured route to MRICS.

The Graduate Building Surveyor will ideally have:

• An RICS accredited Building Surveying degree
• A placement year in a relevant role, or at least 12 months' building surveying experience since graduating
• Clear written and spoken communication, including tidy report writing
• A full clean UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
• Willingness to travel for site work
• A commitment to completing the APC
