Tilbury Douglas is a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out company. We deliver vital projects across a range of sectors including health, education, water, defence, justice and civic and civil estate. Our schemes improve lives and strengthen communities. As a Graduate Bid Writer, you’ll play a key role in helping us win the work that builds that future — crafting compelling submissions that demonstrate our capability, creativity, and commitment to quality.

Location

This role will be based in the Wigan region, where you’ll work within our Regional Preconstruction and Work Winning team. Flexibility to travel across offices and project sites in the region will be required as part of your development.

What you’ll be doing

As a Graduate Bid Writer, you’ll work within our preconstruction and work-winning teams to learn how to develop high-quality tender and proposal submissions. You’ll combine creativity with accuracy and teamwork to support successful bids for major construction projects.

With the support of experienced colleagues, you’ll:

  • Help plan, research and write high-quality bid and proposal documents
  • Work closely with bid managers, estimators, planners and designers to gather key project information
  • Develop your writing and communication skills to convey technical ideas clearly and persuasively
  • Support the creation of case studies, project write-ups and client-facing content
  • Learn to coordinate input from multiple stakeholders, ensuring submissions are compliant, consistent and well-presented
  • Contribute to the design and layout of bids and presentations, ensuring a professional finish
  • Gain experience in digital bid management tools and information platforms
  • Build strong working relationships across commercial, technical and marketing teams
Why this role?

This isn’t just about writing – it’s about storytelling and impact. You’ll learn how to communicate complex construction projects in a way that inspires confidence and trust. With mentoring, structured training and support, you’ll develop the skills to progress towards a professional career in bid management, communications, or marketing within construction.

What we’re looking for

We want to hear from people who are passionate about communication, teamwork and making a difference in the built environment. You’ll bring:

  • A degree (or expected in 2026) in English, Journalism, Marketing, Business, Construction Management, or a related discipline (2:1 or above)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Creativity and the ability to craft clear, engaging and persuasive content
  • Strong organisational skills, able to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • A collaborative mindset, with enthusiasm to learn and contribute to team success
  • Previous placement, marketing, or writing experience (desirable but not essential)
What we can offer you
  • A structured two-year graduate development programme aligned to professional membership
  • RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) registration and support
  • Mentoring and support from experienced counsellors and supervisors
  • Two days volunteering opportunities per year
  • Opportunities to work on diverse and meaningful projects across the UK
  • An inclusive culture where your ideas and contributions make a real difference
  • Competitive salary
  • Car Allowance
  • Performance Related Pay (PRP)
  • 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays (with the opportunity to buy or sell up to 3 days holiday)
  • Private medical insurance and 24/7 access to health and wellbeing experts via our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • Company pension scheme matched up to 8%
  • Flexible Benefits scheme which includes the opportunity to purchase benefits such as:
    • Critical illness insurance (with option to purchase for your partner)
    • Dental Insurance
    • Travel insurance
    • Cycle to work scheme
    • Perks at Work employee discount scheme offering discounts and savings portal for hundreds of retailers, cafés, restaurants, cinemas, travel, payroll giving/activity pass for top leisure attractions and a range of other benefits
