Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services Limited in London is hiring for an entry-level role to explore AI-assisted tools and data automation on real client work. You will learn by building small Python-based tools, understanding data pipelines, and working with senior engineers to convert experiments into reusable solutions.

You will join workshops with data engineers, analysts and clients, write tests and documentation, and contribute to responsible AI practices while gaining hands-on experience on cloud

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Software Engineering, Mathematics or a related STEM subject.
  • Programming fundamentals, preferably Python, and ability to write clean, readable, testable code.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, including reading and understanding queries.
  • Understand data engineering concepts such as pipelines, data quality and data modelling.
  • Understanding of how large language models work, their strengths and limitations, and responsible AI principles.
  • Attention to detail and habit of checking results rather than assuming correctness.
  • Ability to break down problems and explain technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical people.
  • Comfort and flexibility working in a team with changing priorities.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud) and data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks or similar).
  • Academic, internship or personal projects involving AI, automation, data migration, APIs or analytics.
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, Docker or agile delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Build and test small AI-assisted tools for code conversion, documentation, data validation and routine engineering tasks, using Python, cloud services and LLM platforms.
  • Help turn successful experiments into reusable tools that delivery teams use on client programmes, working alongside senior engineers.
  • Write prompts, build test sets and check AI output for accuracy; find where the model gets things wrong and work out how to fix it.
  • Study legacy data systems and code with the team to spot work that AI and automation could take on.
  • Measure what your tools achieve, such as time saved and errors caught, and demo the results to project teams.
  • Join workshops with data engineers, analysts and clients, and turn what you hear into test cases and working prototypes.
  • Write clear documentation and test evidence, and follow good engineering practice: version control, testing, peer review, secure coding and careful handling of client and passenger data.

Job description

Careers at TCS: It means more

TCS is a purpose-led transformation company, built on belief. We do not just help businesses to transform through technology. We support them in making a meaningful difference to the people and communities they serve - our clients include some of the biggest brands in the UK and worldwide. For you, it means more to make an impact that matters, through challenging projects which demand ambitious innovation and thought leadership.

Learn and work alongside experienced engineers and architects, with hands-on mentoring as you go.

Work on data modernisation programmes for Travel, Transport and Airlines based customers.

Build tools that use generative AI to convert, modernize, document and test legacy data systems, and deploy them on live client work.

The Role
This is an entry-level role. We don't expect you to know everything below on day one. We expect you to be curious, careful with detail, and keen to learn how AI performs on real engineering work, including where it falls short.
Your responsibilities:
Your Profile
Essential skills/knowledge/experience:
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Software Engineering, Mathematics or a related STEM subject.
  • Programming fundamentals, preferably in Python, and the ability to write clean, readable, testable code.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, including reading and understanding queries someone else wrote.
  • A basic understanding of data engineering concepts such as pipelines, data quality and data modelling.
  • An understanding of how large language models work, what they're good and bad at, and the principles of responsible AI.
  • Attention to detail and a habit of checking results, whether from code, data or AI, rather than assuming they're right.
  • The ability to break down problems and explain technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical people.
  • Comfort and flexibility working in a team where project priorities change.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud) and data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks or similar).
  • Academic, internship or personal projects involving AI, automation, data migration, APIs or analytics.
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, Docker or agile delivery.
