Job Summary

GP with an interest in Palliative Care for Minehead Medical Centre and patient homes within the local community. Hours: 20 hours (part‑time) with potential for full‑time (40 hours). Salary: £88,000 to £100,000 a year. Permanent contract.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide generalist and specialist palliative care across community and practice settings.
  • Lead anticipatory care planning, including advance care planning and DNACPR discussions.
  • Support symptom management, medication optimisation, and reducing avoidable hospital admissions.
  • Act as a clinical lead, supporting colleagues and contributing to service development and quality improvement.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration and on the Performers List.
  • Evidence of postgraduate training or experience in palliative care (e.g., Diploma in Palliative Medicine, RCGP End of Life Care modules).
  • Proven experience delivering high‑quality general practice, including care for patients with advanced illness and end‑of‑life needs.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary and cross‑sector collaboration.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
Skills, Knowledge & Attributes
  • In‑depth understanding of palliative and end‑of‑life care principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant national and local policies (e.g., NICE, GSF).
  • Excellent communication skills, including sensitive discussions and advance care planning.
  • Strong leadership and collaborative working abilities.
