Job summary

Dr Ghosh & Partners (Trading As Alvaston Medical Centre) is seeking a friendly, organised GP Pharmacy Dispenser to support safe and efficient medicines use for our patients. You will dispense prescriptions, assist patients with medicines, and work with GPs and staff to ensure high-quality, confidential service.

The successful candidate will have at least 2 years of dispenser experience, be detail-oriented, and committed to excellent patient care within a GP practice setting.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy Dispenser: 2 years experience required.
• NVQ Level 2/3 in Dispensary is desirable.
• UK registration with NHS or appropriate body is necessary.

Responsibilities

• Dispense medication for patients registered to the practice.
• Label and check prescriptions for accuracy and safety.
• Assist patients with queries about medicines and escalate as needed.
• Order and maintain stock in the dispensary.

Main duties of the job
Working within our GP surgery dispensary, you will play an important role in supporting our patients and the wider practice team by ensuring medicines are dispensed safely, accurately and efficiently.
The successful candidate will be motivated, reliable and organised, with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to providing a high standard of patient care.
Key duties will include:

• Accurately dispensing prescriptions and preparing medicines for patients.
• Checking prescriptions carefully and ensuring all medicines are labelled and supplied correctly.
• Supporting patients with queries regarding their medicines and escalating any concerns appropriately.
• Ordering, receiving and maintaining stock within the dispensary.
• Checking medication expiry dates and maintaining accurate records.
• Working closely with GPs, clinicians and the wider practice team to support safe and effective medicines management.
• Maintaining a clean, organised and efficient dispensary.
• Following practice procedures, legal requirements and patient confidentiality at all times.
• Managing your workload effectively while maintaining accuracy, even during busy periods.

Alvaston Medical Centre is a friendly and forward-thinking GP practice providing high-quality NHS primary care to patients across Alvaston and the surrounding South Derbyshire area. We are a three-GP Partner, part-dispensing practice, with our main surgery in Alvaston and a branch surgery in Aston-on-Trent.

Job responsibilities
Dispenses medication for patients registered to our practice only. This involves, labelling, picking, checking, bagging and handing out prescriptions to patients in line with the SOPs.
Maintains records of medications received and issued and orders new stock, and ensures products are stored appropriately.
Processes medication requests
Ensures dispensary tasks and emails are processed in a timely manner
Carries out end of day prescription counting
Handles patient telephone queries related to the dispensary
Disposal of returned unused medicines in accordance with Practice policies.
Ensure all controlled drugs are secure in the controlled drug safe and controlled drug record is accurately maintained and that stock levels are correct to the records.
