Job summary

hedgehog lab is seeking an Interaction Designer to create clear, accessible digital interactions for government services used by millions. In this role, you will own the design process from early concepts to production-ready patterns, collaborating closely with user researchers and developers.

The position may involve working in the Newcastle office 1-2 days a week, so candidates within a commutable distance are encouraged to apply. Relevant experience and strong prototyping skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing interactions for government or public sector services.
• Deep familiarity with the GOV.UK Design System.
• Strong prototyping skills for quick, testable designs.
• Clear, evidence-based approach to design decisions.
• Understanding of WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards.

Responsibilities

• Own the interaction design across features and flows.
• Work with user researchers, content designers, and developers.
• Challenge established patterns when necessary.
