The Organisation

Ellwood Atfield is delighted to be partnering with International Airlines Group (IAG) to appoint a Government Affairs Manager. Formed in January 2011, IAG is the parent company of British Airways, Iberia, Vueling, Aer Lingus, LEVEL, IAG Loyalty and IAG Cargo. IAG’s purpose is to connect people, businesses and countries. IAG connects more than 250 destinations globally, 115 million passengers each year as well as carrying valuable cargo to enable global trade.

The Government Affairs Manager will sit within the Corporate Affairs team and report into the Head of UK & International Affairs.

Key responsibilities
  • Managing the development of individual IAG policy positions and related influencing activity in the UK to support Group strategic priorities.
  • Managing aspects of IAG’s international affairs activities, helping IAG’s operating companies secure market access and address doing‑business issues.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to develop group policy positions.
  • Produce convincing and clear written material to further IAG’s policy influencing activity, including letters to political stakeholders and consultation responses.
Experience required
  • Outstanding standard of writing, and ability to translate complex concepts in simple terms.
  • Public affairs influencing experience gained in‑house, from agency, in Parliament or government.
  • Detailed knowledge of UK political institutions and a thorough understanding of policy development and the legislative process.
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment for international aviation.
