Job summary

The Quality Governance and Patient Safety Support role is part of the Quality Governance Team. The post holder will lead on aspects of quality governance including serious incident investigations, as delegated by the Head of Quality Governance & IG. The role promotes a positive learning and just culture, ensuring lessons are learned and actions are taken in response to mistakes or service failures.

Main duties of the job
  • Oversee the Governance function, including the delegation of duties to the Governance Support Officer.
  • Ownership and review of policies and operational documents, ensuring ratification before expiry dates.
  • Support the Quality Governance Advisor in completing the clinical audit process.
  • Manage the generic Quality Governance inbox with appropriate delegation to the team.
  • Ensure prompt action on all correspondence.
  • Align with NEMS SOPs and KPIs when responding to complaints, incidents and healthcare professional feedback.
  • Produce data reports as instructed by the Head of Quality Governance & IG and the Quality Governance Advisor.
  • Innovate to maintain a consistently high standard of governance and patient safety.
  • Maintain the Governance database, capturing relevant learning and actions taken.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure all complaints are drafted and presented to the Head of Quality Governance in a timely manner to meet KPIs.
  • Investigate clinical incidents of varying complexity in line with agreed timeframes and protocols.
  • Support the dissemination of lessons learned and remedial actions through timely reporting.
  • Assist in delivering specific projects for the Quality Governance Advisor.
  • Utilise Human Factors and Ergonomics tools to support investigators.
  • Communicate openly, honestly and transparently with patients, relatives and carers during investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with the NEMS Patient Safety Incident Framework and Duty of Candour.
  • Maintain a high standard of record for each investigation and produce timely reports.
  • Support the organization in capturing all safety alerts.
  • Keep all mandatory training up to date and maintain a personal development plan.

Experience (Essential)
  • Previous experience of working within a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of Quality Governance.
  • Experience leading on projects.
  • Ability to deputise.
  • Experience in complaints or incidents.
  • Understanding of local and national policies in relation to governance.
  • Experience of report writing.
  • Experience of engaging with patients.
  • Knowledge of PSIRF.
Experience (Desirable)
  • Operating in NHS or social care commissioned services.
  • Experience in urgent primary care services.
  • Investigation experience.
Qualifications (Essential)
  • Degree level education.

  • Previous Governance or IG training.
