Job description

Our client is a leading fuel trading business, with a truly global reach and the largest physical supply network of any market participant. They form part of a wider global commodity trading house; renowned for being one of the most commercially driven groups in the Commodity trading industry.


Due to continued growth, this newly created stand-alone role will form part of the wider Tax team, reporting to the Group Head of Tax and working hand in hand with the CEO.

This presents as a senior leadership role, responsible for overseeing the strategic management and governance of global indirect tax operations for the global fuel trading business.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive indirect tax strategy to support global expansion into new jurisdictions and ports, effectively partnering with commercial stakeholders and regional teams.
  • Establish and maintain robust risk management frameworks, emphasizing data integrity and audit trail readiness.
  • Lead proactive management of tax, customs, and excise audits, including dispute resolution.
  • Ensure full compliance with global indirect tax reporting and licensing requirements through robust controls across trading and accounting systems.
  • Initiate process optimizations to reduce operational risks and enhance tax efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for indirect tax optimization while minimizing cash-flow impact from transactional taxes.
  • Collaborate closely with senior regional management, commercial teams, and the wider trading Group Tax function to ensure alignment and transparency.

SKILLS:

  • Minimum 10+ years of senior-level indirect tax experience.
  • Related work-based experience within the Energy / Commodity trading industry is essential.
  • Expertise in managing complex customs and excise matters is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record in navigating and advising on indirect tax across multiple jurisdictions.
