What were looking for

We are seeking a seasoned technical leader to step into a pivotal role following the retirement of an experienced colleague. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the Marine Industry by upholding the safety, quality and compliance of Lloyds Register's in‑service fleet which represents around 16% of the world’s tonnage.

You will lead a global team responsible for providing rapid, clear and consistent decisions and advice on classification matters. The team ensures robust governance of classification activities in alignment with LRs procedures while balancing the expectations of both Flag administrations and clients.

We are looking for someone with specialist expertise who can confidently manage complex and challenging cases applying sound judgment and technical addition you will contribute to LRs strategic priorities by driving functional improvement projects that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our services.

The role
  • Act as a member of the Classification Executive deputising for the Chair when required and make decisions on survey postponements, lay‑up and reactivation confirmation of class and enhanced surveys under the authority of the Classification Committee in line with FSD procedures.
  • Manage LRs technical risk effectively while meeting the expectations of Flag States.
  • Oversee the In‑Service caseload ensuring adherence to business processes defined standards and performance measures and implement corrective procedures where necessary.
  • Lead the team in operating systems for technical review and audit of global survey reports ensuring corrective actions are implemented and communicated at the corporate level.
  • Manage workflows and reporting systems to ensure timely and accurate implementation of required actions.
  • Ensure the In‑Service team maintains the technical competence required to deliver specialist advice and support to both internal and external clients.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance within your discipline to support clients and stakeholders.
  • Initiate manage and monitor projects to develop and improve global marine classification processes aligned with LR and FSD strategy enhancing accuracy consistency and responsiveness to strengthen LRs competitive position.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain high levels of technical knowledge and awareness.
  • Conduct all activities in compliance with LR procedures accreditation schemes legislation industry standards and the LR Code of Ethics (IMS01).
  • Mentor and coach colleagues to enable effective knowledge transfer and capability development.
  • Carry out administrative tasks as required in line with current processes and procedures.
What you bring
  • A degree in engineering or physical science from a recognised tertiary institution (minimum two‑year programme) or equivalent qualifications from a marine / nautical institution with relevant sea‑going experience as a certificated ships officer.
  • Extensive knowledge of marine classification and statutory certification surveys with practical experience across a wide variety of ship types gained as a Principal or Lead Surveyor.
  • Strong understanding of marine classification processes procedures and standards.
  • Proven communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues managers and external stakeholders.
  • Solid knowledge of project management principles supported by relevant training and experience.
  • Professional membership of a recognised institution.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Proficiency in English both written and spoken at a professional level.
