Job summary

Volatus Aerospace Corp. seeks a GIS Specialist to develop and manage geospatial datasets, perform analysis, and deliver geospatial training programs.

The role combines technical GIS work with education, supporting data-driven environmental and infrastructure projects across the UK. The candidate will contribute to training materials, deliver classroom and online instruction, and progress toward becoming a lead instructor for geospatial training programmes, while staying current with GIS and UAV

Responsibilities

Role Purpose

The GIS Specialist will support the development, analysis and management of geospatial datasets and contribute to the delivery of industry-leading geospatial training programmes.

The ideal candidate will possess strong GIS and spatial data management skills and either have training experience or demonstrate the desire and capability to develop into a GIS Instructor. We will support the successful candidate in developing their training and presentation skills where required.

Key Responsibilities

Geospatial Services

• Develop, maintain and manage GIS databases and spatial datasets.
• Process, analyse and interpret geospatial information from multiple sources.
• Produce mapping products, visualisations and analytical reports for clients and training programmes.
• Integrate data from UAV surveys, GNSS systems, remote sensing platforms and traditional survey methods.
• Maintain data quality assurance and spatial accuracy standards.
• Support consultancy projects involving environmental monitoring, infrastructure management and asset inspections.

GIS Analysis

• Perform spatial analysis and modelling.
• Create thematic maps and digital cartography products.
• Manage vector, raster and LiDAR datasets.
• Support land-use, environmental and infrastructure projects using GIS methodologies.
• Develop workflows for automated or repeatable geospatial processes.

Training & Education

• Assist in the development of GIS training materials and practical exercises.
• Support delivery of GIS and geospatial technology courses.
• Provide classroom, online and practical workshop instruction.
• Mentor learners and provide technical guidance.
• Progress towards becoming a lead instructor for geospatial training programmes.
• Support the development of new GIS, Remote Sensing and Drone Mapping courses. Including working with our Media & Content Assistant to support video production and e-learning programmes

Industry Development

• Stay current with developments in GIS, Earth Observation, Remote Sensing and UAV technologies.
• Support exhibitions, demonstrations and corporate client workshops.
• Contribute to the growth and reputation of our geospatial training division.

Essential Requirements

• Experience working with GIS software and spatial data management.
• Strong understanding of cartography and spatial analysis principles.
• Practical experience managing geospatial datasets.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly.
• Strong report writing and presentation skills.
• Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Willingness to travel throughout the UK and overseas as required

• Degree in Geography, Geoinformatics, GIS, Geomatics, Surveying, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
• Experience working with UAV-derived mapping products.
• Photogrammetry experience.
• Remote sensing and Earth Observation knowledge.
• LiDAR processing experience.
• Python scripting or GIS automation experience.
• Teaching, coaching or mentoring experience.

Knowledge of environmental, infrastructure or utilities sectors.

• Professional GIS certifications.

• Experience working with corporate clients.

Hours of Work, Work Environment, and Potential Travel

• The position is a onsite role, and you may be required to work both onsite and in field environments as directed by the Company.
• The standard work schedule consists of 37.5 hours per week, typically performed Monday to Friday, subject to operational requirements.
• From time to time, you may be required to maintain reasonable flexibility in working hours to support operational needs, time-sensitive activities, or business priorities.

• This role may involve occasional travel within the UK as required to support training activities and business requirements.
