Job Summary

This role is located in a British Overseas Territory, therefore UK legislation such as the Data Protection Act (2018) and the Equality Act (2010), or similar, may not apply.

• The post holder will be responsible for delivering sexual healthcare to patients who are self-referred, referred by a GP or other Allied Health Care Professional.
• The post holder will work as an independent practitioner; have knowledge and skills and competence to manage individual patient consultations within a legal and ethical framework and within agreed boundaries and protocols in line with Clinical Governance and professional accountability.
• The post holder will comply with British Association for Sexual Health and HIV guidance, Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare guidance, and other relevant guidelines.
• Ensure that patients, their relatives and carers have a positive experience when accessing and receiving care, and that this is at the forefront of service development.
• Establish collaborative working relationships with the relevant Primary Care and community groups and other stakeholders.
• To undertake health promotion activities in order to promote risk reduction in line with current sexual health strategies.
• To undertake outreach services providing advice, guidance and education to the local secondary schools and college.
• To provide a non-judgemental and confidential service.

Main Duties of the Job

• Demonstrate an understanding of the complexity of sexual and reproductive health issues and have the ability to provide sensitive care to all patients, including sexual assault.
• Implement a programme of clinical care on an individual basis to a defined group of patients presenting with issues relating to sexual and reproductive health.
• Demonstrate competence and sensitivity in undertaking a detailed sexual and social history to establish the needs of the individual patient and manage as appropriate, referring on where necessary.
• Have specialist skills and knowledge to undertake genital examination, to screen for sexually transmitted infections, cervical screening and to test for and diagnose both sexually transmitted infections and non-sexually transmitted genital conditions, selecting an appropriate treatment option in consultation with local protocol and in discussion with the Sexual and Reproductive Health Doctor.
• Have specialist knowledge and understanding of the cervical screening pathway.
• Have specialist knowledge and understanding of the full range of contraceptive methods available, including risks, side effects, mode of action and effectiveness or facilitate informed patient choice.
• To fit and remove sub-dermal implants competently.
• Assess patients for HIV and initiate treatment for PEP, as appropriate in accordance with GHA guidelines.
• Demonstrate knowledge of public health issues including sexual health promotion, safer sex and sexual well-being.
