Job summary

Phicon Ltd seeks an organised Assistant Geotechnical Engineer to support site-based delivery on civil earthworks projects. You will collect high‑quality site data, assist QA, and document observations while working with senior engineers, contractors and laboratories.

Requirements include a Civil/Geotechnical degree (0–3 years’ experience), CSCS, UK driving licence, and familiarity with Eurocode 7. The role is 6–12 months contract, primarily on site with some office/remote as needed, and involves

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Geotechnical/Engineering Geology or equivalent.
• 0–3 years’ experience (placements welcome).
• Working knowledge of Eurocode 7 basics and UK site practice.
• Confident with Excel/Word and tidy data management; driving licence required (UK).
• CSCS ticket is required; SSSTS/PTS desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• QA & inspections: Assist with ITP checks, photograph and document works, complete checklists, and raise issues promptly.
• Earthworks & materials: Observe/record compaction testing, track moisture/acceptability, and compile daily summaries.
• Working platforms & access: Verify materials/thickness against design intent and maintain evidence packs.
• GI & verification: Help supervise trial pits/boreholes; manage sampling, logging, chain‑of‑custody and lab schedules.
• Records & reporting: Produce site diaries, photo logs and weekly memos; support NCR responses and close‑out.
• Coordination: Liaise with contractor, testing labs and suppliers; attend briefings and capture actions.
