Geotechnical Engineer | Leeds | £35,000

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Geotechnical Engineer to join a well-established and highly regarded ground investigation consultancy in Leeds. This role offers the chance to work on a diverse range of technically challenging projects across various sectors, including rail, residential, commercial, and infrastructure. Responsibilities

As a Geotechnical Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

* Project Work: Planning, designing, and managing geotechnical and ground investigation projects from inception to completion. This includes site investigation campaigns for rail infrastructure, retaining wall design, foundation analysis, earthworks assessments, and slope stability assessments.

* Conducting Phase 1 Desk Studies and preparing detailed interpretative reports.

* Performing geotechnical risk assessments and providing bespoke solutions to clients for complex ground conditions.

* Ensuring project milestones are achieved while meeting time and budgetary constraints.

* Liaising with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.

* Providing mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, while also learning from the senior engineering team to accelerate your development.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you should meet the following criteria:

* A degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline (a postgraduate qualification in Geotechnics or Engineering Geology is advantageous).

* Demonstrable experience in ground investigation and geotechnical consultancy work.

* A strong understanding of UK ground conditions, standards (e.g., BS5930, EC7), and design codes.

* A full UK driving licence, with the flexibility to travel as required.

* Reside within a commutable distance of Leeds, or be willing to relocate.

Day-to-Day

Your day-to-day activities will include:

* Producing detailed specifications for rail embankment stabilization and undertaking geotechnical surveys of new and existing rail networks.

* Reviewing and interpreting borehole logs, CPT data, laboratory test results, and other geotechnical information for design recommendations.

* Producing technical reports for clients within the rail, infrastructure, and residential sectors.

* Conducting site visits to monitor project progress and manage contractors during ground investigations.

* Collaborating with geotechnical and environmental teams on larger multi-disciplinary projects.
