Job summary

Binnies is seeking an experienced environmental professional to lead geomorphology surveys, produce WFD compliance assessments, and drive river restoration and NFM projects. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams and liaise with clients and stakeholders to deliver high-quality environmental solutions.

The role emphasizes data management, analytical tools, and strong communication. Driving licence and chartered status are required, with flexible, hybrid working options available.

Qualifications

  • An environmental related degree is required.
  • Chartered status with a relevant institute is required.
  • Experience in fluvial geomorphology/hydromorphology is essential.
  • Understanding of WFD Compliance Assessments is essential.
  • Experience of catchment management and working with inter-disciplinary teams is required.
  • Ability to understand and apply analytical tools and models and manage data.
  • Experience of river restoration/wetland design is desirable.
  • Excellent written and oral communication is essential.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead geomorphology surveys including walkovers and site-specific assessments.
  • Prepare and review Water Framework Directive compliance assessments to support environmental studies.
  • Lead river restoration design development, catchment studies, and NFM projects.
  • Support Biodiversity Net Gain assessments with baseline surveys and reporting.
  • Lead the design and delivery of WINEP projects.
  • Advise on water environment implications for engineering designs and mitigation opportunities.
  • Collaborate with project teams, clients, stakeholders and the public.
  • Act as technical lead and communicate progress to the PM team.
  • Contribute to bidding and procurement activities.
  • Line management responsibilities may be required.

Job description

About the Role
  • Leading on geomorphology surveys, including walkovers, fluvial audits and site-specific surveys
  • Production and review of Water Framework Directive Compliance Assessments to support environmental assessments.
  • Leading on river restoration design development catchment studies and Natural Flood Risk Management projects.
  • Support the watercourse element of Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, including baseline surveys, baseline and post-intervention metric calculations, reporting and habitat management and monitoring plans.
  • Lead on the design and delivery of Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) projects.
  • Advise on implications for the water environment from engineering designs, as well as development of mitigation and enhancement opportunities
  • Liaising with project teams, clients, stakeholders and the public as required
  • Act as a technical lead on projects, disseminating technical progress of projects to the PM team.
  • Contribution to bidding and procuring work.
  • Line management responsibilities may be required.
About You

The role is suitable for an experienced environmental professional with full professional membership (such as CIWEM, IES or IEMA). You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:

  • An environmental related degree
  • Chartered status with a relevant institute.
  • Background in fluvial geomorphology/hydromorphology
  • Understanding of Water Environment Regulation (WFD) Compliance Assessments
  • Experience of catchment management and projects, working with inter-disciplinary teams
  • Have an ability to understand and apply analytical tools and models and manage data
  • Experience of river restoration/wetland design
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
