Job summary

Imerys is seeking a Geology Technician to join our UK Hub Exploration Geology Team based at Quarry Close, Nanpean. The role involves hands-on fieldwork, drilling support, logging, sampling and grade control across our operations in St Austell, Cornwall.

You will work alongside experienced geologists, contributing to data collection, interpretation and reporting while developing practical geology experience within a global organisation.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geology, Mining Geology, Earth Sciences or related discipline.
• Strong interest in exploration, geology and mineral resources.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Exploration & Drilling Support: prepare and handle drill core; log geological information; measure core recovery; prepare and submit samples for lab testing.
• Geological Activities: support mapping projects; assist with grade control; work with mine geologists and operations teams.
• Data & Reporting: maintain geological records and databases; digitise historical geological information; support geological reporting.

Salary: £28,350.51

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Working Pattern: Typically Monday to Friday, 07:30 - 15:30 with flexible start and finish times available

Contract: Fixed Term Contract until 31 December 2027

About Our Opportunity

We're looking for a Geology Technician to join our UK Hub Exploration Geology Team based at Quarry Close, Nanpean.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a geology-related degree who is looking to develop practical experience in exploration, drilling and mineral resource activities.

Working alongside experienced geologists and technicians, you'll support exploration drilling programmes, geological logging, sampling and grade control activities across our operations.

This is a varied and hands-on role which combines fieldwork, geological investigation and data collection within a supportive team environment.

What You'll Be Doing

Exploration & Drilling Support

• Preparing and handling drill core.
• Logging geological information from drilling programmes.
• Measuring core recovery and recording geological data.
• Preparing and submitting samples for laboratory testing.

Geological Activities

• Supporting geological mapping projects.
• Assisting with grade control activities.
• Working alongside mine geologists and operational teams.
• Collecting and recording geological information.

Data & Reporting

• Maintaining geological records and databases.
• Digitising historical geological information.
• Supporting geological reporting activities.
• Ensuring data is recorded accurately and consistently.

• Degree qualified in Geology, Mining Geology, Earth Sciences or a related discipline.
• Strong interest in exploration, geology and mineral resources.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physically capable of carrying out manual handling activities associated with the role.

Desirable Criteria

• Previous geology, exploration or drilling experience.
• Knowledge of geological logging techniques.
• Experience of sampling or fieldwork activities.
• Experience within quarrying, mining or mineral extraction environments.
• Knowledge of geological data systems or mapping software.
• Legally allowed to drive in the UK.
