AtkinsRéalis is seeking a pro-active and enthusiastic Geo-Environmental / Contaminated Land Consultant with relevant experience to join our award-winning Contaminated Land & Hydrogeology team within the Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice.

Based in either our Cambridge or London office (with flexible hybrid working), you will be part of an award-winning group of contaminated land experts delivering innovative brownfield solutions to major UK infrastructure projects, across the transportation, energy, buildings and places and water markets.

Your purpose
  • Organisation, collation and assessment of desk-based information as part of Phase 1 Contaminated Land Desk Studies.
  • Design of Phase 2 site investigations, including organising, supervising and undertaking environmental / geo-environmental site investigation and monitoring scopes. The role will include regular site-based work such as contractor supervision, soil sampling and logging, environmental monitoring/sampling and supporting others on site in these roles too.
  • Compliance with Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, including preparation of H&S Plans for site investigation and managing health and safety on site.
  • Digital data management, development of conceptual site models, and undertaking qualitative and quantitative risk assessments for human health and the water environment. Preparation and delivery of factual and interpretative reporting.
  • Support with remediation design, implementation and verification.
  • Developing own competence and maintain CPD necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, with support from the business on own training and development needs.
  • Management of own work including supporting senior management to ensure projects are delivered on-time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.
What you can bring
  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. geology, geography, hydrogeology, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental science).
  • Working towards Chartered Membership of relevant professional body.
  • Relevant post-graduate experience (ideally within a consultancy environment), with a track record in delivering work on-time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.
  • Demonstratable understanding of land contamination/brownfield land issues including understanding of relevant codes of practice and industry standards.
  • Experience in relevant site-based work including undertaking soil and rock logging, soil/gas/vapour/leachate/groundwater and surface water monitoring/sampling and providing supervision and management of contractors undertaking trial pitting and drilling activities on brownfield sites. Willingness to travel and undertake site-based work across the UK.
  • Familiarity with discharging Principal Contractor duties in accordance with CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Good organisational skills and an appetite for undertaking outdoor work in all weathers (alongside a variety of desk-based tasks) are essential.
  • Experience in delivering site-based work on active gas and electricity infrastructure distribution/transmission sites. Further training can be provided as required.
  • Experience managing data on large projects, especially GIS data and AGS data, ideally using software such as QGIS and/or ArcGIS.
