Job description
Overview

The purpose of this post is to support the service primarily through contributing to the translational projects undertaken in Synnovis Genomics. The post holder will support the development of new tests and the implementation of new laboratory equipment supporting the diagnosis and management of rare diseases and cancer. They will be involved in experimental design as well as execution and write up of results. They will ensure that the laboratory tests and reports are completed to a high standard and will work closely with clinical and scientific teams. They will have a wide knowledge of clinical molecular genetics.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Associate Practitioners, Genetic Technologists and Clinical Scientists.
  • Be responsible for the timely delivery of translational projects and rotate through areas of the Multi-omic Medicine Service to gain competence.
  • Manage multiple tasks, maintain and operate complex analytical equipment, verify results, and ensure routine service delivery is prioritised.
  • Train staff on equipment, participate in evaluation, validation, and implementation of new tests, and apply technical, scientific, and clinical knowledge, including troubleshooting existing and developing assays.
  • Ensure safe handling of samples, replenish supplies, maintain equipment and databases, provide feedback to colleagues, participate in audits, update practices and documentation, engage in research and development, and adhere to ISO:15189 standards and the quality management system.
