Job Purpose

The post holder will be responsible for assisting with organisation and maintenance to support the smooth running of science provision. Although the primary focus of this role is supporting Biology at this time, the willingness to be flexible is an advantage. The post will be across five days a week for a fixed term ending on 26 June 2026, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Main Responsibilities
  • Be part of a team of Science Technicians, working independently and flexibly.
  • Prepare equipment and materials for General Science and Biology lessons as requested by teaching staff.
  • Maintain stock levels of equipment and consumables in laboratories and prep rooms.
  • Submit orders for new equipment, researching best prices with suppliers.
  • Clear away equipment and materials from lessons.
  • Wash glassware used in lessons.
  • Clean and maintain equipment in laboratories and prep rooms.
  • Repair breakages where possible.
  • Oversee modification and construction of apparatus.
  • Set up demonstrations as required by teaching staff.
  • Keep risk assessments up to date in all areas.
  • Adhere to health and safety matters and school’s policies.
  • Maintain and update records of experiments.
  • Maintain a clear and tidy working area in prep rooms and laboratories.
  • Trial practical activities if required.
  • Assist teachers during practical activities (supervision of small group work when required).
  • Provide technical support in preparation and during data‑logging activities.
Other Responsibilities
  • Attend regular meetings with the team of Science Technicians and departmental colleagues.
  • Seek the Head’s authorisation for any absence; give notice of unavoidable absence through sickness and indicate work for following classes.
  • Familiarise with and practise school policies (Data Protection, GDPR, Health and Safety, Confidentiality, Child Protection).
  • Help create and promote an image of the school in accordance with its aims.
  • Attend relevant courses as required to support fulfilment of the role.
  • Safeguard valuable items held by the department.
  • Report any damage to facilities management team.
  • Carry out other duties reasonably corresponding to the post’s general character.
