Job description
Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our healthcare team at HMP Lewes, a category B remand prison based in Lewes, East Sussex. The prison houses around 692 patients aged between 18‑65 years. In this role you will work in receptions supporting the intake of new patients into the prison, working closely with the multi‑disciplinary team including the substance misuse nurses and the early days mental health team to deliver high quality healthcare services.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver first‑class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and further develop your knowledge in areas you wouldn’t usually experience within a practice or an A&E environment.
  • Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patients, making timely decisions regarding future management.
  • Provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team at site and to patients, whilst maintaining active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.
  • Support career development through a wide range of internal and external options for learning and development.
  • Participate in face‑to‑face sessions at HMP Lewes: 1 weekday evening (6 pm‑10 pm), 1 Saturday per month (2‑6 pm).

  • Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse.
  • RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications.
