Morecambe Bay Primary Care Collaborative
General Practitioner

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced GP to join our clinical team. We are looking for a hardworking, friendly and skilled professional who can offer a minimum of 6 sessions per week. They will work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the GMS contract. The post holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, and maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Job Summary: The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

  • Make self available for surgery, telephone, video and e‑consultations, home visits, prescription management, and paperwork.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions on presenting problems.
  • Assess health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • In consultation with patients and in line with practice disease‑management protocols, develop care plans for health.
  • Provide counselling and health education.
  • Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary or generically when clinically appropriate.
  • Undertake all normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP in primary care.
  • Maintain awareness and compliance with practice policies and guidelines (e.g., prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety).
  • Commit to learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
  • Contribute to evaluation, audit, and clinical standard setting.
  • Help develop computer‑based patient records and assist in summarising patient records and Read‑Coding patient data.
  • Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
