Job description
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Conduct chronic disease management clinics
  • Carry out immunisation programmes for both children and adults, including travel health
  • Perform cervical cytology (smear tests) and provide women's health advice
  • Manage minor and complex wounds, including leg ulcer care
  • Conduct health screening and provide health promotion and lifestyle advice
  • Assess and treat minor illnesses
  • Maintain accurate patient records and contribute to clinical governance and quality improvement
  • Contribute to the development of policies, protocols and guidelines within the practice
  • Support the implementation of evidence‑based guidelines in conjunction with the practice nursing team
  • Provide professional and managerial support to health care assistants
  • Offer guidance and support to health care assistants to improve standards of care if needed
  • Provide advice on lifestyle issues and assist patients in changing unhealthy behaviours, referring appropriately
  • Recognise signs of child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse, addictive behaviours and suicidal tendencies, and be aware of referral procedures
  • Apply infection control measures when collecting and handling laboratory specimens, disposing of waste materials and dealing with blood, body fluids and sharps injuries
  • Undertake first aid and manage emergencies (e.g., burns, haemorrhage, hypo/hyper‑glycaemic emergencies, asthma attacks)
  • Undertake annual training and demonstrate competency in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary education and training
  • Monitor and maintain consistency of professional standards, taking appropriate action if standards are not met
  • Maintain professional development by attending relevant courses and study days
  • Abide by legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice, and maintain periodic professional registration with RCN & NMC
  • Assist in clinical audit and set and monitor standards of care
  • Maintain accurate patient records
Supervision

Risk Management

It is a standard element of the role and responsibility of all staff of Alma Medical Centre to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk. This entails risk assessment of all situations, taking appropriate actions and reporting all incidents, near misses and hazards.

Records Management

As an employee of Alma Medical Centre, you are legally responsible for all records gathered, created or used as part of your work. All such records are considered public records, and you have a legal duty of confidence. Consult the Practice Manager if you have a doubt about correct management of records.
