Job summary

Heidelberg Materials UK at Penmaenmawr Quarry is seeking a General Operative to support production and supply of construction materials. The role offers hands-on work with modern equipment within a busy quarry environment, emphasizing safety and teamwork.

You will operate and assist with quarry and plant machinery, perform inspections, and help maintain site housekeeping while working outdoors in varying weather.

Qualifications

• Experience in a quarry, asphalt, construction, manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate and assist with fixed quarry plant, mobile plant, asphalt plant, and railhead operations.
• Carry out routine inspections and basic maintenance checks on machinery.
• Report faults and maintenance needs promptly.
• Load, unload and handle materials safely and efficiently.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and follow safety procedures.
• Identify hazards and unsafe conditions and report them.

We're looking for a General Operative to join our team at Penmaenmawr Quarry, playing a vital role in the production and supply of essential construction materials across the region. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills within a busy quarry environment, working with experienced colleagues and modern equipment while contributing to a safe, efficient, and high-performing operation.

What You'll Be Doing

• Operating and assisting with a range of equipment and facilities, including: Fixed Quarry Plant Mobile Plant (HME) Asphalt Plant Railhead Operations
• Carrying out routine inspections and basic maintenance checks on machinery and equipment.
• Reporting faults, defects, and maintenance requirements promptly.
• Loading, unloading, and handling materials safely and efficiently.
• Maintaining high standards of housekeeping across the site.
• Following all health, safety, and environmental procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
• Identifying and reporting hazards and unsafe conditions.
• Supporting colleagues across operational areas as required.
• Contributing to a positive team culture focused on safety, quality, and performance.

What We're Looking For

• Experience within a quarry, asphalt, construction, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.
• A strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• The physical capability to undertake manual duties and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Reliability, flexibility, and a willingness to learn.
• Desirable Experience operating quarry or mobile plant machinery.
• Relevant plant tickets, certifications, or operating licences.
• Essential Full UK Driving Licence.
• Willingness to undertake training and development to support your career progression.
