Job summary

Galliford Try is seeking a General Operative to join the Environment Scotland team. The role is based out of Grangemouth or Aberdeen and supports Scottish Water projects across the East of Scotland. You will follow site rules, operate tools, and assist with civil engineering tasks as directed by site management.

The ideal candidate will be safety minded, flexible, and capable of handling basic excavation and installation activities, with a focus on quality and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • CSCS card is essential for site access.
  • DOMS or EUSR certification is essential.
  • NRSWA accreditation is preferred.
  • CPCS roller and dumper training is expected.
  • Slinger/banksman training is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Observe site health and safety rules at all times.
  • Operate hand, power and percussive tools safely.
  • Keep welfare areas clean, tidy and stocked.
  • Assist excavation and installation activities under supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with operatives and management.
  • Ensure site remains tidy and presentable throughout shifts.

Job description

General Operative – Environment Scotland

An opportunity has arisen for a General Operative to join the team at Galliford Try. Working as part of our DV2 Scottish Water Framework, you will be based out of Grangemouth or Aberdeen and support on Scottish Water projects across the East of Scotland.

What you will be doing
  • Know, understand and observe specific site rules with regard to health and safety.
  • Operate hand, power and percussive tools safely.
  • Observe general organisation procedures on site
  • Ensure welfare is kept clean, tidy and stocked.
  • Perform all duties as directed by the site management.
  • Ensure that the site is kept tidy and presentable at all times.
  • Assist and work on excavation and installation activities of civil engineering operational requirements as directed by the site supervisor
  • Working knowledge of safe construction practice.
  • Able to recognise hazards and dangers of working on a construction site.
  • Able to accept advice and instructions from site management.
  • Able to communicate with other operatives and site management.
  • Show ability to work with tools to produce good quality work
  • Ensure all company property under your control is taken care of and stored securely when not in use.
