About Duranta

Duranta Energy runs one of the region’s leading anaerobic digestion (AD) facilities, where waste is transformed into clean electricity, biomethane, and low-carbon heat. Every year, the site processes up to 120,000 tonnes of waste, helping to reduce landfill, lower emissions, and create renewable energy from materials that would otherwise be lost.

Since opening in 2012, Duranta has become a cornerstone of the Teesside energy ecosystem - providing flexible, low-carbon energy to the local grid and gas network. As the company grows, Duranta continues to expand its operations and optimise how renewable energy and recovered materials reach the market.

Role Overview

The General Manager of the Hulam Site will oversee all aspects of Duranta’s depackaging facility at Hulam Farm. This is a hands-on operational leadership role, responsible for ensuring the site runs safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.

The role also includes supporting Duranta’s Teesside operations (Forty Foot Road site) to meet production targets and implement best practices across the network.

Key Responsibilities
Site Operations
  • Manage daily operations at the Hulam depackaging site to deliver consistent throughput, minimal downtime, and high-quality output.
  • Develop and implement a Preventive Maintenance Programme (PPM) and maintain a critical spares inventory to maximise uptime.
  • Establish and manage effective shift patterns and staffing levels.
  • Identify and deliver equipment upgrades and site improvements to support future expansion.
  • Ensure all site operators follow best working practices to achieve safety, efficiency, and product quality standards.
People Management
  • Recruit, train, and lead site staff and supervisors.
  • Design and deliver training programmes to promote skill development and operational excellence.
Compliance & Regulation
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations at all times.
  • Lead the EA permit variation process for site expansion and maintain readiness for audits and inspections.
Commercial Development
  • Identify and secure new commercial contracts for waste processing.
  • Strengthen existing client relationships and expand service offerings.
  • Manage the sale of end products to third parties.
Logistics & Stakeholder Management
  • Maintain strong relationships with logistics partners to ensure efficient, cost-effective material transport.
  • Liaise with farmers, land agents, and other local stakeholders to maintain positive site relationships.
Cross-Site Support
  • Provide operational assistance to the Forty Foot Road site to help it achieve production and performance goals.
Candidate Profile
Essential
  • Proven experience in site or plant management within AD, feedstock management, waste management or other relevant process industries.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Commercial awareness and experience managing contracts, suppliers, or customers.
  • Hands-on problem solver with excellent organisational and communication skills.
Desirable
  • Experience in anaerobic digestion, depackaging, or food waste recycling operations.
  • Familiarity with EA permitting processes and environmental management systems.
  • Experience in process optimisation or maintenance planning.
