Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Trust's Cancer Services for a 12 months secondment, covering maternity leave. The role of the General Manager for Cancer, supports the Director of Cancer with the delivery of operational cancer services and Cancer Waiting Times performance, working with primary care, NHSE, RM Partners, Macmillan and the South West London Cancer Alliance.

This is a key senior leadership role with an emphasis on operational delivery and performance, but also contributing to strategic direction of cancer and clinical pathways across the Trust. The role provides strong local leadership to balance strategic plans with operational needs to ensure robust delivery. It supports the Trust in ensuring the provision of high quality patient services that are clinically sound, delivered cost effectively and meet the Trust's priorities and performance targets.

Working closely with the Clinical Leads for Cancer and Lead Cancer Nurses, the role is pivotal in ensuring the patients on the urgent suspected cancer pathways are treated in line with the Planned Care and Cancer workstream of the Trust's Operational Recovery Programme. Excellent partnership working with clinical directorates, clinical support services and SWL sector is essential to ensure recovery of cancer services.

The role supports the Directorates and Trust in ensuring the provision of high quality patient services that follow clinical best practice pathways, delivered cost effectively whilst meeting the Trust's priorities and performance targets.

The post holder will be a key driver of improvement particularly with regards to the National Cancer Wait Standards, early diagnosis and implementation of one stop pathways and ensuring we close the gap of health inequalities within the borough.

Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Post Graduate Management related qualification (or Corporate experience) in an NHS provider organisation

Desirable criteria

  • Clinical Background
Knowledge and understanding

Essential criteria

  • Clear understanding of the NHS Agenda and in depth knowledge of current legislation and NHS policy
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the national, local and Trust financial situation and challenges
  • In depth knowledge of Health Sector practices and functions of NHS provider organisations and current targets in place for emergency care and patient flow

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge and understanding of the national and local issues pertaining to the delivery of effective patient flow.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues specifically challenging Croydon Health services
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Proven track record of senior operational management experience in a multi- disciplinary environment.
  • High level of leadership and organisational skills.
  • Experience of successfully developing collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Budget management experience. Specifically managing to budget whilst delivering against CIP and QIPP schemes
  • Managing complex organisational change projects - including working with clinical / non clinical staff to change team structures & ways of working

  • Experience of financial recovery and turnaround
