Doctor’s Tonic in Welwyn Garden City is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead a busy, sports-led pub with two floors, a large garden and space for around 160 guests. You’ll own the commercial performance and shape the venue’s next chapter with energy, vision and strong people leadership.

We're looking for an experienced General Manager who loves people, thrives in a busy pub environment and is ready to put their own stamp on a well-established Urban Social site.

Doctor’s Tonic is a lively, family-friendly pub in the heart of Welwyn Garden City, with plenty going on throughout the week. From live sport and DJs to quizzes, live music, great pub food and celebrations, this is a pub with a real social heartbeat.

And there’s still plenty of opportunity to grow.

Because there's more to this pub than just great drinks.

Doctor’s Tonic is a social pub at its heart, with two floors, a large garden and space for around 160 guests, giving you plenty of scope to create different experiences throughout the week.

It's a destination for Arsenal fans and sports lovers, with Sky Sports and TNT Sports showing the big games.

When the sport isn't on, there's still plenty happening – Monday quizzes, DJs on Friday and Saturday nights, live music and function space for celebrations and events.

We're also looking to develop the site further in the future, with investment opportunities available for the right business and, importantly, the right General Manager to lead it.

What's the opportunity?

As General Manager, you'll have real ownership of the business and the opportunity to shape its next chapter.

We're looking for someone who can bring energy, commercial thinking and strong people leadership to the role – someone who doesn't just want to run the pub, but wants to drive it forward.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

• Lead from the front, creating an energetic and welcoming atmosphere for both customers and your team.
• Drive the overall performance of the pub and identify new opportunities for growth.
• Develop the food offer and build on the pub's existing drinks-led reputation.
• Make the most of the large 160-cover indoor space and substantial front garden.
• Grow our events and entertainment calendar, including DJs, quizzes, live music and private celebrations.
• Build on our strong live sport offer, with Sky Sports and TNT Sports.
• Develop the pub's reputation as a destination for sports fans, with a particularly strong Arsenal following.
• Recruit, coach and develop a brilliant team, creating a culture where people enjoy coming to work.
• Work closely with your management team to deliver consistently high standards.
• Start to develop the pub's digital and social media presence, creating new ways to engage with our customers.
• Work with Greene King to identify future investment opportunities and help shape the pub's long-term potential.

Qualifications

What we're looking for

This is a role for an experienced pub leader who genuinely enjoys working with people and knows what it takes to drive a busy operation.

You’ll ideally have:

• Proven experience as a General Manager, Pub Manager or experienced Assistant Manager ready for their next challenge.
• A strong hospitality background, ideally with experience in a busy, wet-led or high-volume pub.
• A genuine interest in sport, particularly football.
• Experience leading, coaching and developing a team.
• Strong commercial awareness and the ability to spot opportunities to grow the business.
• A passion for great customer experiences and creating a pub people want to return to.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-focused approach.
• The confidence and ambition to challenge the status quo and try new things.
• A Personal Licence, or the ability to obtain one.
