Overview

Barge East is one of London’s most unique dining destinations - a 2 AA Rosette quality neighbourhood restaurant set aboard a historic barge, with beautiful casual outdoor garden spaces serving drinks and relaxed dining. Proudly independent and locally sourced, we’ve won multiple awards and remain one of London’s top-rated venues on TripAdvisor.

We’re now looking for an experienced General Manager with strong kitchen operations knowledge and the ability to oversee both our restaurant and our casual garden spaces. You’ll lead a passionate team, uphold high standards, and drive both guest satisfaction and commercial success.

As General Manager, you’ll take full responsibility for venue operations — managing the 2 AA Rosette restaurant and casual outdoor garden areas with a focus on quality, efficiency, and profitability with a particular focus on kitchen ops.

You’ll work closely with the Head Chef and Operations Director to align the kitchen, front of house, and garden teams, ensuring a consistent and memorable experience for every guest.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire the team across our 2 AA Rosette restaurant and casual outdoor garden spaces.
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to maintain operational excellence, team alignment, and consistently high guest standards across all areas of the business.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring both restaurant and garden services run smoothly, efficiently, and profitably.
  • Manage budgets, P&L, and labour targets - you will be expected to make data-driven decisions that protect standards and drive growth.
  • Maintain full compliance with HACCP, hygiene, and safety procedures, and ensure all brand and service standards are consistently met.
  • Support, develop, and motivate your team through clear communication, structured training, and hands-on leadership.
  • Champion sustainability, local sourcing, and the community ethos that defines Barge East.
  • Be a leader during service, setting the tone for excellence.
About You
  • Proven experience as a General Manager in a food-led or AA Rosette-level venue.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen operations and back-of-house processes.
  • Confident managing both quality dining and busy high-volume, outdoor hospitality spaces.
  • Commercially astute with solid financial control and cost management skills.
  • Inspiring leader with a genuine passion for food, drink, and great guest experiences.
