Job description

General Manager – Luxury Hotel & Spa

Location: Lake District

Salary: Highly competitive + excellent package

Hours: Full time

We’re working with a leading luxury hotel and spa in the heart of the Lake District — a landmark destination recognised for its stunning setting, exceptional hospitality, and award-winning facilities. With over 80 bedrooms, two restaurants, a thriving spa, and a strong weddings and events business, this is a flagship property within a respected, family‑owned group. Following the internal promotion of the current General Manager, this is a rare opportunity for an experienced, commercially minded, and hands‑on leader to take the reins and continue driving success. This is a fully operational role — you’ll be on the floor, leading by example, engaging with guests and teams, and ensuring every part of the operation runs seamlessly.

The Role

As General Manager, you’ll be responsible for the overall performance of the hotel, including operations, finance, guest experience, and team leadership. Working closely with the senior team, you’ll deliver results through strong leadership, sound commercial judgement, and an unwavering commitment to quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations across the hotel, spa, and F&B departments, ensuring consistency and excellence throughout
  • Take full accountability for financial performance — budgeting, forecasting, P&L management, and cost control
  • Lead and inspire department managers, setting clear goals and supporting their development
  • Drive commercial initiatives to maximise revenue across rooms, weddings, spa, dining, and seasonal offers
  • Maintain exceptional guest satisfaction, responding proactively to feedback and service trends
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing, health & safety, and environmental standards
  • Champion innovation in wellness, sustainability, and guest experience
  • Act as the professional face of the hotel within the local community and hospitality industry
About You

This role would suit an established General Manager or an ambitious Deputy GM ready to step up in a high‑profile environment. You’ll be commercially strong, people‑focused, and passionate about delivering an exceptional guest experience.

You’ll need
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in senior hotel leadership — ideally within a luxury, resort, or high‑volume property
  • Proven track record in delivering financial results, controlling costs, and driving revenue
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and engage a large and diverse team
  • Hands‑on, energetic, and visible management style — someone who leads from the front
  • Genuine passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences
  • Confident communicator able to represent the property at all levels — with guests, owners, and external partners
  • Experience or good understanding of spa, wedding, and events operations is highly desirable
What’s On Offer
  • Highly competitive salary + great overall package
  • Performance‑related bonus scheme
  • Supportive, family‑run group offering autonomy and input at senior level
  • Live‑in accommodation available (short‑term if required)
  • Central support functions in HR, Finance, Marketing, Revenue, and Reservations
  • Real career progression and personal development opportunities across the wider business
  • Staff discounts across group properties
  • A beautiful working environment in one of the UK’s most iconic destinations
