Neos Engineering are partnered with a well-established and growing plant hire business seeking a highly capable General Manager to oversee the performance and operational leadership of a busy and fast-paced depot. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong leadership experience within the heavy plant, construction, or equipment hire sectors.

The Role

As General Manager, you will take full ownership of depot operations, leading a multidisciplinary team and driving both performance and compliance. Your role will span across customer service, team development, health & safety, and budget management to ensure the smooth and efficient running of all depot activity.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading all aspects of depot operations with a focus on safety, service, and compliance (including ISO standards)
• Managing and motivating teams across engineering, transport, yard, and office functions
• Overseeing health and safety policies and ensuring all audits and regulations are adhered to
• Driving high-quality service delivery and maintaining strong client and supplier relationships
• Monitoring KPIs, budgets, and depot performance with a focus on continual improvement
• Managing stock levels, asset utilisation, and fleet efficiency

The Candidate

You’ll be a strong operational leader with proven experience managing teams within the heavy plant, construction, or hire industries. A deep understanding of plant equipment, compliance, and depot management is essential.

You’ll bring:

• Demonstrated experience in depot, operations, or branch management
• Strong leadership and team development skills
• Solid understanding of health & safety, compliance, and financial performance management
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities
• Knowledge of heavy plant equipment and fleet operations

Desirable qualifications and experience:

• IOSH or NEBOSH certification
• Background in fleet or asset management
• Management or leadership qualifications
