The Merchant of Battersea, part of Metropolitan Pub Company, is looking for an experienced General Manager to lead a busy pub in Clapham Junction. This role requires energizing leadership to deliver great service, events, and a lively guest experience.

You will build a capable team, manage operations, control costs, and ensure brand standards across all activities. A personal license is desirable, and you will play a key role in growing sales and guest satisfaction.

Qualifications

• High standards and attention to detail in daily pub operations.
• Experience in managing a busy hospitality venue is preferred.

The Merchant of Battersea isn't a pub that quietly sits in the background.

Sitting between Clapham Junction and the Common, The Merchant is a recently refurbished, lively South West London pub built around great food and drink, live sport, cocktails, live music and a packed calendar of events.

We're looking for an experienced General Manager with the personality and energy to make the most of it.

This is a role for someone who loves a busy pub, enjoys creating an atmosphere and knows how to build a team that genuinely enjoys being part of the business.

Live sport brings the big match atmosphere, live music takes over the weekends and events like Rockaoke give The Merchant a personality of its own.

Add in cocktails, great food and a brilliant location close to Clapham Junction, and you've got a business with plenty for an ambitious General Manager to get stuck into.

We're not looking for someone to simply keep things ticking over. We want someone who can take all of that potential, bring their own ideas and make The Merchant the place people choose for a drink, a match, a meal or a big night out.

Qualifications

What you'll do as a General Manager...

• Work with your business development manager and management team to grow pub sales.
• Lead by example in everything you do and bring our brand to life through your team in delivering amazing experiences for our customers.
• You will recruit & develop your team to ensure they have the knowledge needed to delight our customers.
• Be a champion of brand standards & ensure customer & team safety at all times.
• Please be aware that if you are successful in this role you will need to either already have, or be able to acquire a personal license

What you'll bring...

• Very high standards and attention to detail in all aspects of the day-to-day running of a successful pub.
• You're great with people, and as a result, have great communication and leadership skills.
• You’ll be business savvy, with a keen eye for P&L control.
• You'll embrace individuality and care for others, your pub and the environment.
• Previous success at General Manager level is desirable; from a hospitality, retail or other fast paced background, and the right attitude and outlook is essential!
• You're keen to learn and happiest when you succeed at something new.
• Sufficient spoken and written English to perform the role safely and understand allergen controls.
