Qualifications

Hugh James, a highly ranked top 100 law firm based in the centre of Cardiff, is currently looking to recruit GDPR Executive to join their Quality & Risk Department. The role Were looking for a hands‑on Data Protection & GDPR Advisor to join our Quality & Risk team.

Youll deliver practical, business‑friendly advice across the firm, helping colleagues handle personal data lawfully, respond to requests and incidents efficiently, and embed privacy by design.

Skills & Qualifications

Depending on experience, you may lead on specific workstreams under the supervision of the In‑house Compliance Associate.

  • Manage data subject requests (DSRs) including SARs, Right to Erasure, and other rights requests end‑to‑end.
  • Maintain and update the firm's ICO registrations and associated records.
  • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and updating privacy notices and internal procedures.
  • Triage incidents, perform risk assessments, and prepare ICO notifications where needed.
  • Assist with supplier due diligence, DPIAs, and vendor compliance checks.
  • Track GDPR/PECR developments and support internal policy updates.
  • Support GDPR training and awareness campaigns including the annual 'GDPR Month'.
  • Maintain registers and logs (incidents, DPIAs, DSRs) and assist with privacy governance activities.
  • Support certification and assurance projects and privacy‑by‑design initiatives.
We Would Welcome Your Application If You Have
  • Demonstrable experience in a GDPR/Privacy role, ideally within a regulated or professional services environment.
  • Experience handling DSRs, DPIAs/TRAs, data sharing agreements, breaches and ICO engagement.
  • Strong drafting skills for policies, notices, and client questionnaires.
  • Ability to provide clear, practical advice to non‑specialists.
  • Desirable but not essential: IAPP CIPP/E or CIPM (or equivalent), PECR knowledge, familiarity with ISO 9001 and Lexcel.
To be successful in this role you will need to be:
  • Organised and analytical, comfortable managing logs and assurance evidence.
  • Collaborative, with a service mindset and confidence to influence stakeholders at all levels.
