Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, experienced GCSE SEND Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to a learner in Wokingham, Berkshire. The role focuses on adapting teaching to meet SEND needs, building confidence, and promoting positive engagement with GCSE studies.

The successful candidate will have SEND experience, be able to tailor lessons to individual needs, and support exam technique and revision.

Qualifications

  • Strong subject knowledge in at least one GCSE-level subject.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring at GCSE level.
  • Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people with SEND.
  • Experience providing one-to-one educational support.
  • Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual SEND needs.
  • Experience supporting learners who may have barriers to mainstream education.
  • SEMH experience would be highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting challenging behaviour would be beneficial.
  • Patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
  • Ability to build trusting and respectful relationships with young people.
  • Experience supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to maintain clear professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Providing personalised one-to-one GCSE tuition.
  • Supporting a secondary-aged learner with SEND.
  • Supporting one or more GCSE subjects depending on the tutor's subject specialism.
  • Adapting lessons, resources and teaching approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted support.
  • Breaking complex topics into manageable and accessible steps.
  • Supporting GCSE revision, exam preparation and exam technique.
  • Developing confidence and positive attitudes towards learning.
  • Supporting learners who may experience anxiety, school avoidance or disengagement.
  • Creating a calm, structured and positive learning environment.
  • Using the learner's interests and strengths to encourage engagement.
  • Supporting learners who may display challenging behaviour where appropriate.
  • Developing independence, resilience and confidence.
  • Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
  • Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.
  • Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's support.
  • Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Job description

GCSE SEND Tutor - Wokingham

Location: Wokingham, Berkshire
Phase: Secondary / GCSE / SEND
Working Arrangement: In-person

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced GCSE SEND Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to a young person in Wokingham.

The successful tutor will have experience supporting secondary-aged learners with SEND and be confident adapting their teaching style, pace, resources and communication to meet individual needs. You will be able to identify areas where the learner requires additional support and help them build confidence, independence and positive engagement with their GCSE studies.

Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable. A calm, consistent and flexible approach will be essential.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.
