Job summary

Focus Cloud is seeking a Senior GCP Cloud Engineer to design, build and run resilient, scalable cloud-native services on Google Cloud. You will lead architecture across teams, develop Kubernetes-based automation, and set engineering standards for public cloud use in a financial services context.

This hands-on senior role involves writing production code, maturing CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and aligning with security/compliance requirements.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing, building and operating custom Kubernetes operators and CRDs with Kubebuilder, Operator SDK or similar.
• Proven experience building cloud-native control planes and automation frameworks: reconciliation loops, admission controllers, webhooks and custom controllers.
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals, API machinery, RBAC, multi-tenancy, observability and production operations.
• Advanced proficiency in at least one modern language, ideally Go or Python, including performance optimisation and concurrency patterns.
• Experience designing CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation and deployment strategies.
• Advanced understanding of the SDLC and agile practices (CI/CD, application resiliency, security, capacity planning), with the ability to improve them across teams.
• Demonstrated expertise in a technical discipline such as cloud architecture, distributed systems, security, DevOps/platform engineering or AI/ML

Job description

We are hiring a Senior GCP Cloud Engineer to design, build and run resilient, highly scalable cloud-native services on Google Cloud. You will lead architecture across teams, build Kubernetes-based platform automation, and set the engineering standard for how the firm uses public cloud.

This is a hands-on senior role where you will write production code shaping cloud platform standards, CI/CD maturity and infrastructure-as-code practices across Software Engineering. You will work within firm-wide security, compliance and regulatory requirements for a financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities - Build and operate on GCP and Lead architecture

This is an inside IR35 Contract role working via Umbrella Company so candidates can only be considered if they are based in the UK.

The role can be based from either Glasgow or Scotland and you will be required onsite 2-3 days per week.
