Job summary

CBSbutler Ltd. is seeking a Systems Engineer to join the Secure Digital Platform (SDP) team on a Reading-based hybrid contract.

The role is an initial 12-month engagement with on-site work three days per week and a focus on secure digital infrastructure for high-sensitivity defence projects. You will support secure cloud and on-prem environments, assist with Microsoft Azure administration, manage Windows and Linux servers, and work with container platforms such as Kubernetes/OpenShift, IaC

Qualifications

• Experience within defence, aerospace, MOD, government or other secure environments.
• Experience supporting Windows Server and/or Linux platforms.
• Understanding of cloud technologies, ideally Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls).
• Exposure to VMware, Hyper‑V, Kubernetes, OpenShift or container technologies.
• Interest in automation, DevOps practices and modern platform engineering.

Responsibilities

• Supporting secure cloud and on-premises infrastructure environments
• Assisting with Microsoft Azure administration and cloud platform operations
• Maintaining Windows Server and Linux environments
• Supporting virtualisation platforms and enterprise hosting solutions
• Working with Kubernetes/OpenShift container platforms
• Monitoring system performance, availability and resilience
• Supporting incident management, troubleshooting and service improvements
• Contributing to automation and Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives using tools such as Terraform, Ansible or PowerShell
• Supporting secure infrastructure changes, documentation and operational processes
