Gardener/Handyman - 20 Hours per week

Harbour Healthcare are recruiting for a Gardener/Handyman in Woolton, Liverpool. Your role will include ensuring all legal documents are completed and carrying out day-to-day maintenance on the fabric of the building, its services and grounds to maintain the Care Centre in a safe and efficient functional order. You will also be required to be on call only for emergencies.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • General maintenance knowledge/experience e.g. minor electrical, plumbing, joinery work etc.
  • Good communication skills
  • Confident team player
  • Clean driving licence
  • Use of a car or similar vehicle
  • Willingness to receive training on current Health & Safety/EHO issues
  • Satisfactory Police check and check against the POVA List (where applicable)
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
General Maintenance
  • Assist in the assessment of the effectiveness of maintenance implementation and delivery.
  • Use grass cutters and other machinery.
  • Implement actions to meet and maintain maintenance standards.
  • Systematically solve day-to-day problematical issues which arise.
  • Ensure the Residents’ rights are protected.
  • Routine maintenance such as litter collection and sweeping.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of those individuals you support.
  • Ensure ALL legal documentation is completed on time.
  • Report and act on any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture/equipment and any other potential hazards to the Home Manager.
  • Maintain the Care Centre’s exterior and keep sheds, outbuildings and waste areas clean and tidy.
  • Clear snow and grit the drive, paths and any areas accessed by clients, visitors or staff.
  • Test and record water temperatures as specified in Company procedures.
  • Maintain a “Maintenance Book” to record defects and effect repairs/replacements daily.
  • Maintain external gardens, flower beds, and hanging baskets to a high standard.
  • Clean all signs and lighting outside the Care Centre.
  • Carry out patching or touching up of decoration as required to maintain the standard of the Care Centre.
Communication
  • Liaise with the Home Manager or delegated staff regarding maintenance work.
  • Participate in staff and client meetings as required.
Training & Development
  • Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
Health & Safety
  • Ensure paints and varnishes are used and stored per manufacturers' instructions.
  • Ensure painting/varnishing work areas are well ventilated and safe for clients, visitors and staff.
  • Report immediately to the Home Manager or Person in Charge any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a client, colleague, self or another.
  • Understand and enforce the Care Centre’s Health and Safety policy, and emergency and fire procedures.
  • Promote safe working practice in the Care Centre.
