Job description

The South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) is looking for a GAIN Coordinator keen to progress their career as part of our Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU).

As a GAIN Coordinator you will be involved in working with local Forces to understand their processes for tackling Serious and Organised Crime (SOC) and regularly engage with appropriate departments. You will proactively identify opportunities for partnership working, including use of the GAIN referral process, develop local contacts within the relevant agencies which operate at a regional and local level to create an environment with which government agencies can lawfully share intelligence. You will need to work with partner agencies to help them map their SOC to build a more complete picture, play an active role in the network of GAIN Coordinators, supporting the National GAIN Coordinator and other Regional colleagues to ensure connectivity and consistency across the ROCUs.

Skills, experience and qualifications required – Essential
  • The post holder will have suitable experience working at a senior level within law enforcement / government or multi agency capacity.
  • The post holder will have excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and will also have an excellent standard of computer literacy.
  • The post holder will demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of legislation, national standards and good practice on all areas of covert intelligence and this will be evidenced by relevant experience.
  • Experience of high level problem solving and of dealing with a wide variety of police and partner agencies is also essential, together with an understanding of the aims and objectives of partner agencies.
  • The post holder must also have significant experience of working at a strategic level in a multi-agency capacity. They will have experience of influencing and persuading stakeholders and must be able to demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and work well as part of a team, as well as on own initiative.
  • To hold a full current driving licence, unless prevented by reason of disability, and be able to travel independently across the Region where alternative transport is not readily available or appropriate for the task, such as delivering sensitive documentation.
  • The post holder will be expected to travel to events across the UK; this will require staying overnight on occasion.

Vetting and safeguarding

This post is subject to a higher security clearance at MV and SC – Management Vetting and Security Clearance Level.
