Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Sutton-in-Ashfield is seeking a Clinical Development Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics. Qualifications

  • Deputise for absent colleagues.
  • Be available for irregular commitments as per the rota.

FY3 Doctor/Clinical Development Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics

We have a fixed‑term Clinical Fellow post in Trauma & Orthopaedics (ST1/2 level) to start as soon as possible until 5 August 2025 (with the possibility to extend) at King's Mill Hospital, part of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This post offers an excellent opportunity for doctors who have completed core training and want to improve clinical and research skills before applying for Specialty Registrar posts in Trauma and Orthopaedics, or for those who have completed foundation training and are looking to enhance their skills in this specialty.

All successful candidates will be well supported by senior colleagues throughout their tenure with us. Previous UK clinical experience is essential, as this is an ST1/2 level post.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide patient care under the supervision of the Consultant, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury.
  • Refer patients to appropriate inpatient facilities as required.
  • Participate in multi‑disciplinary teams and local meetings.
  • Teach and supervise junior staff where appropriate.
  • Actively engage in audit and clinical governance.
  • Play a role in the day‑to‑day management and administration of the department.
  • Deputise for absent colleagues, ensuring continuity of patient care.
  • Be available for irregular commitments outside normal duties, including public holidays, as per the rota, with time off in lieu.

Qualifications and Eligibility
  • MBBS or equivalent.

Clinical Experience
  • At least 2 years post‑qualification experience (or equivalent on a part‑time or flexible basis).
  • At least 1 year of surgical experience.
  • Relevant experience and competencies for all aspects of the job.
  • Experience working in Trauma & Orthopaedics within the NHS.
  • Experience in a district general hospital or equivalent.
Academic and Research Skills
  • Publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Understand the principles of audit.
  • Provide complete details of employment history.
Language
  • Proficient written and spoken English adequate for effective medical communication.
Personal
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Organise and manage priorities efficiently.
  • Professional attitude and flexible work style.
  • Respectful towards others.
