Job summary

Airbus Operations Limited in Bristol offers an internship in the Future Projects Office to explore the early stages of aircraft design. You will work on wing and overall preliminary design challenges and collaborate with engineers across the UK, France, Germany and Spain.

This placement is open to undergraduate students studying Aerospace, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering for the full duration, with opportunities to participate in STEM outreach and development activities.

We are the Airbus Commercial Aircraft Future Projects Office and are responsible for the preliminary design of all Airbus Commercial Aircraft. What will you be doing?

For this internship, you would be working within either the Wing and Landing Gear Team or the Overall Aircraft Preliminary Design Team. You will work on the early stages of projects and could cover a number of disciplines in order to deliver an optimised solution for either wing or complete aircraft problems. To achieve this, you will work with Future Project team members in the UK, France, Germany, and Spain and possibly other engineering teams within the business, so communication skills will be key.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the preliminary phase of aircraft design and its wider business impact.

You will also have the chance to take part in initiatives outside your day-to-day tasks that will provide opportunities for personal development. Examples of these could be: attending career fairs, organising site tours and running STEM sessions in schools.

Requirements

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform us of your graduation date on your application.

As the successful candidate, we would want you to demonstrate the following:

• For the duration of the internship, you must be an undergraduate and studying for an Engineering degree with a significant level of Aerospace/Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering content;
• Proficient oral and written communication skills, coupled with good IT skills;
• Be creative and have an open mindset with a desire to explore and learn;
• A keen interest in the aviation industry;
• Motivated with the ability to manage own activities and work with a multi-skilled, transnational team;
• A desire to help shape the future of aviation!

Security Clearance

You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
