Job summary

The Fungal Genomics PDRA at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, will deliver genomic analysis support to the Fungarium Sequencing Project (FSP) involving 7,000 fungal and lichen genomes. The role requires strong bioinformatics and genomics experience, with a PhD or equivalent qualification, and knowledge of fungi is desirable.

An 18-month fixed-term position within the Science Directorate offers opportunities to advance understanding of fungal secondary metabolites.

Qualifications

• Strong track record in bioinformatics and genomics.
• PhD degree or relevant equivalent qualification in a science discipline.
• Knowledge of fungi is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Analyze genomic data from 7,000 fungal genomes.
• Identify patterns in evolution of biosynthetic gene clusters and self-resistance genes.
• Contribute to processing, assembly and release of newly generated genomes.
• Learn to express putative self-resistance genes in yeast and assay active metabolites.
