Key responsibilities
Strategy & leadership
  • Develop, deliver and periodically review HHUGS’ fundraising strategy, ensuring alignment with the mission to support families affected by counter‑terror measures.
  • Set annual income targets and create multi‑year plans to grow income through regular giving, high‑value donors, trusts, grants, corporate partnerships, legacy giving and digital campaigns.
  • Recruit, line‑manage and develop staff within the fundraising function, including workforce planning, hiring, induction, performance management and regular 1:1s.
  • Lead and motivate the team (staff and volunteers), setting clear objectives, supervising workloads and providing professional development.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with major donors, charitable trusts, statutory bodies and corporate partners whose objectives match HHUGS’ aims.
  • Write compelling funding proposals and grant applications, ensuring compliance with Islamic giving principles (zakat, sadaqah) and UK charity regulations.
  • Maintain and develop community fundraising by supporting mosques, schools and volunteers to run local events and seasonal campaigns (e.g., Ramadan, Qurbani).
  • Oversee the donor database/CRM to ensure accurate record‑keeping, segmentation, timely acknowledgements and Gift Aid processing.
Marketing & communications
  • Set priorities and own the brief for external marketing suppliers (design, video, social, email), ensuring outputs support fundraising targets and reflect HHUGS’ values.
  • Maintain an approvals process (brand, safeguarding, confidentiality) and sign off assets produced by suppliers.
  • Coordinate the content calendar for campaigns and appeals; align timings with fundraising milestones.
  • Track basic performance metrics provided by suppliers and report implications for fundraising (what to do more/less of).
  • Ensure GDPR‑compliant consent/use of stories and images in liaison with casework and operations.
Events & campaigns
  • Plan and deliver fundraising campaigns and events (e.g., sponsored challenges, dinners, webinars, mosque collections) with clear targets, budgets and promotional plans.
  • Liaise with volunteers and community organisers to maximise participation and ensure events are inclusive and aligned with HHUGS’ ethos.
Reporting & compliance
  • Monitor income streams and expenditure, preparing regular financial and operational reports for the CEO, trustees and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure all fundraising activities (and contracted marketing activity) comply with relevant legislation (Fundraising Regulator, GDPR, Charity Commission), Islamic fundraising principles and HHUGS’ policies on safeguarding and data protection.
  • Use an organisational operating system (e.g., EOS/Traction) to run cadence meetings, maintain departmental scorecards/dashboards, and monitor delivery against agreed rocks/KPIs.
Networking & representation
  • Act as an ambassador for HHUGS by building relationships with partners, attending conferences, media interviews and community events to promote the charity’s work.
  • Uphold HHUGS’ values when representing the charity and nurture networks within the Muslim charity sector.
Person specification
  • Experience – Demonstrable success in fundraising and income generation across multiple streams (major donors, trusts, community fundraising, digital campaigns); experience in strategic planning and budget management; track record of managing teams and delivering income targets.
  • Marketing oversight – Experience commissioning/managing external agencies or freelancers to support fundraising goals (briefing, timelines, approvals and simple performance reviews).
